Volterra in Javier Peña's climate solutions documentary HOPE
At Volterra Ecosystems, we were honoured to take part in HOPE, the landmark climate solutions documentary hosted by Javier Peña, one of the most influential environmental communicators in the Spanish-speaking world, with over 1.5 billion video views and 2.5 million followers.

The series is a six-episode documentary produced by RTVE Play, filmed across 17 countries and inspired by Project Drawdown, Paul Hawken's global plan to reverse climate change. Rather than focusing only on the bad news, it showcases the solutions and people already working to regenerate the planet, featuring voices like Jane Goodall and Christiana Figueres.
Our organisation appears in Chapter 6, which explores biochar, its discovery and remarkable potential. During the interview, our director Sven Kallen shared his insights into this ancient yet forward-looking solution. The filming took place in March 2024 in Almería, during a training session with local Alvelal farmers, where we showed them how to turn agricultural waste into highly valuable "black gold".

When activated with micro-organisms, biochar works wonders for the soil: it improves structure, boosts water retention, and hosts beneficial bacteria, fungi, and mycorrhizae.
We warmly invite you to watch the documentary series on RTVE Play and on Movistar Plus platforms.
